Manchester United have been dealt an injury blow ahead of Friday’s clash with Spurs as defender Axel Tuanzebe has been ruled out.
Tuanzebe joins fellow defender Phil Jones on the crocked list but the nature of his injury was not disclosed.
Solskjaer told his press conference: “Phil Jones and Axel will miss this game, we will see how they are. Apart from that the rest of the squad is fit.”
This season has been pretty stop-start for Tuanzebe who has dealt with a number of injury concerns over the course of the campaign.
He had been pictured in training earlier in the week looking healthy but he must have picked up a knock.
Tuanzebe wasn’t exactly in line to start the game with Spurs this friday but he would most definitely have been part of United’s plans over the next six weeks or so, with a lot of games to be played in a short space of time.
In away games, United have been opting for three central defenders this season – which makes Tuanzebe the first reserve. Given his ability though, there is an argument that he could be even higher up that pecking order.
Going into the season resumption, United have Harry Maguire, Victor Lindeløf and Eric Bailly fit and available.
Luke Shaw has been used as a central defender in a three once or twice this season so that’s another option, with Brandon Williams in the left-back role.
This could present an opportunity to 18-year-old Teden Mengi with the squad set to be tested to the limits over the course of the next six weeks.
The onus is now very much on Eric Bailly to try and keep his fitness, something which he has struggled with recently.
