According to Sky Sports, Manchester United are “interested” in signing Wolverhampton Wanderers striker, Raul Jimenez.
The Mexican international is reportedly one of two striker targets for Ole Gunnar Solksjaer – the other being Lyon star and Chelsea target Moussa Dembele.
Jimenez has hinted in the past that might he could be open to a move away from Molineux in the future, telling Spanish outlet Marca that “I’d have to look at the conditions [of a possible move], if they suited myself, Wolves and the other club.”
You get the feeling that this would be incredibly difficult for United to strike up a deal for Jimenez, given how important he is to Wolves. This season he’s scored 17 goals in 33 appearances across all competitions, the same number he finished the season with in 44 appearances last season.
Jimenez has been getting better and better for Wolves and would indeed fill a need in the United squad. Despite letting Lukaku go out on loan in the summer, United never really replaced him and don’t have an out and out number nine in the team currently.
The Mexican would bring goals without a doubt, but given that Wolves don’t need to sell him and crucially, don’t want to sell him, you’d imagine it’ll cost us an arm and a leg to bring him to Old Trafford.
The other thing I can’t help but think when I see this deal is that it seems like more of a deal for the summer, rather than the winter. Wolves aren’t going to sell their number one goal-scorer slap bang in the middle of the season – they wouldn’t be that stupid, would they?
Currently, United’s top scorer Marcus Rashford is level with Jimenez in terms of goals on 17. I’d personally love to see them playing together, that United attack would be an absolute force to be reckoned with. Either way, I don’t see that happening this month, but United could very well hijack Chelsea’s efforts to sign Moussa Dembele.
Lyon have already turned down a £34million bid from the Blues this month for the striker, but could United tempt him into a move this month? Only time will tell…
